Abstract

Migration and population transformation are two phenomena that have significant impacts on economic development, social structures, and public policy. This study aims to analyze research trends related to migration and demographic change using a bibliometric approach. Data were sourced from academic databases such as Scopus. The study collected 1,325 sources (including journals, books, and others) and 2,231 documents covering the period from 1966 to 2025. Data processing was conducted using RStudio, Biblioshiny, VOSviewer, OpenRefine, and Microsoft Excel for citation analysis, content analysis, and network analysis. A systematic review of recent publications complements the bibliometric analysis. In addition to identifying the most relevant scientific actors in migration and population literature, the study finds that most researchers in this field are based in the United States, China, and India, with interconnected and widely established research networks. As a result, four future research themes were identified in the study of migration and population: (1) Urbanization and Rural-Urban Migration, (2) Urban Population and Demographic Dynamics, (3) Migration Integration and Demographic Studies, and (4) Gender and Migration. Furthermore, the study reveals that both internal and international migration play a critical role in shaping population transformation, influencing labor market dynamics, urbanization processes, and the distribution of resources.
