Makanan sebagai identitas budaya suatu etnis. Identitas budaya merupakan ciri pembeda antara masyarakat yang satu dengan masyarakat yang lain. Ritual makan saro adalah ritual makanan tradisional pada upacara pernikahan adat Ternate, Maluku Utara. Artikel ini mengkaji bahasa ritual makan saro dalam konteks pernikahan adat Ternate dari perspektif sastra dan etnografi. Artikel ini memaparkan bentuk dan gaya penggunaan bahasa ritual makan saro, yang dikodekan dalam pesan budaya tertentu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnolinguistik. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa ungkapan bahasa ritual makan saro berupa ungkapan selamat yang di dalamnya terdapat peribahasa, peribahasa dan metafora. Selain itu, simbol material juga ditemukan dalam ritual makan saro. Bentuk ungkapan bahasa umumnya khusyuk, puitis, dan disampaikan dengan menggunakan bahasa kiasan.
